This is a personal news story.
I have just written a libretto about Vicente Salumbides.
Vicente Salumbides who?
Vicente Salumbides, the Philippine film pioneer in 1924 right after the so-called Father of Philippine Movies Jose Nepomuceno’s film laboratory in San Juan was razed to the ground.
I asked Celeste if I could pitch the project to her.
Legaspi didn’t answer immediately so I sent her a new message on Facebook.
She said she was very busy preparing for her concert and had to attend to a family affair.
I requested press materials about her upcoming show and she said “..will do.”
The concert turned out to be the star-studded “Groovin'” with a kicker “OPM Friends” and a subhead “The Greatest Hits” at the Newport World Resorts on March 27, 2026 at 7 pm.
Celeste, as a stalwart of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) was inspired to gather her colleagues from the org and the local Tin Pan Alley, namely, Mitch Vsldez, Pat Catillo, Nanette Inventor, Pinky Marquez, Leah Navarro, Bo Cerrudo, Ding Mercado and Nonoy Zuniga to mount a special show to help needy people.
In her Facebook wall, she noted: “Every time I’m singing with my OPM FRIENDS it’s sooo much fun and it’s great knowing we are able to help others.”
