A joyful visit to Maddox Jewelry in Marikina City turned into an unexpected discovery for Cherry Pie Picache when she asked jeweler Charo Cordial to examine a jewelry set she had treasured for years.
The veteran actress shared that she bought the set when she first started earning, hoping to have an investment she could also enjoy. She believed the pieces were made of natural diamonds, based on what she was told when she purchased them.
The set came without a certificate, but Picache admitted she trusted the seller.
While waiting for the results, she tried on various natural diamond pieces at Maddox Jewelry, repeatedly exclaiming, “Oh my God!” over the ones she liked.
Picache said her love for jewelry was inspired by her mother. She considers jewelry a good investment because it can be enjoyed while still retaining value.
“You enjoy it, you wear it. And then if you need it, you can sell it,” she explained.
But the mood changed when the examination results came in.
The setting was 18-karat white gold, but the stones Picache had long believed were natural diamonds turned out to be moissanite.
“I’m sad,” she confessed.
Picache said she would try to contact the seller. While the gold setting still has value, the stones are not worth the same as natural diamonds.
From jewelry to showbiz
The conversation eventually shifted to Picache’s long career in showbiz.
She recalled her early years in the industry, when she had to prove that beauty alone was not enough to build a lasting career.
“It’s not just beautiful. You also have to work hard,” she said.
Picache also emphasized the distinction between being a celebrity and being a true actor.
“I hope the craft is given importance,” she said, recalling a time when actors were expected to arrive prepared, know their scripts, and study their scenes.
She also shared a story about a film in which a body double was allegedly used for her without her knowledge. Upon discovering what happened, she stopped the scene and confronted the director.
“Who do you think you are? You don’t have a name here,” she recalled being told.
Despite being a newcomer at the time, Picache stood her ground.
“I may not have a name here, but this is not my bread and butter,” she reportedly replied, making it clear that she could walk away because she felt deceived.
On Edu Manzano
Picache and Cordial also talked about her past relationship with Edu Manzano.
She said she is happy that Manzano now has a new girlfriend and that they remain friends. Asked why they broke up, Picache gave a simple answer: “Mutual decision.”
“When you’re mature enough, at the end of the day, you do things because you want to be happy,” she added.
