Davao City gets P7.6 billion for 10 bypass road projects

Davao City will have 10 bypass road proj­ects worth P7.6 billion in a bid to alleviate the worsening traffic situation in the city’s urban areas.

The bypass road project will help ease traffic particularly in the north and south gridlocks in the city.

The projects include widening of ex­isting roads and road openings in some sections. It is aimed at motorists who would want to go through certain areas in the city without having to pass major thor­oughfares.

Currently access to different areas in the city is through highways and thor­oughfares which lead to congestion and gridlocks. Among these are the Ulas grid­lock in southern part of the city and the Panacan-Tibungco gridlock.

Among the bypass roads aimed to de­congest these gridlocks include the Bypass Road at Davao-Cotabato Road (Bang­kal)-Catalunan Grande Road, Junction Davao-Bukidnon Road (Mintal) which aims to unburden traffic decongestion at Ulas. While there are seven bypass road projects to decongest Panacan-Tibungco section of the Davao-Agusan Road.

These projects include the following: Reconstruction/Concreting/Widening of Slaughter House Road up to F. Tor­res Bridge with bridge widening worth P469.4-M; Construction/Widening/Im­provement of Bypass Road at Jct. Davao City Diversion Road-Communal-Caban­tian-Tigatto Road worth P472.4-M.

Second district projects include Construction/Widening/Improvement of By­pass Road at Jct. Davao City Diversion Road-Tigatto Road-Jct. Davao City Diver­sion Road worth P1.01-B;

Reconstruction/Widening/Improve­ment of Bypass Road at Jct. Daang Ma­harlika-Eliong-Jct. Acacia Road worth 244.9-M; Reconstruction/Widening/Im­provement of Bypass Road at Jct. Daang Maharlika-Licanan-Bunawan-Mahay­ag-Indangan-Cabantian-Jct. Davao City Diversion Road (Buhangin-Lapanday Road worth P1.7-B; Construction/Con­creting of Bypass Road at Jct. Mamay Road-La Verna-Davao City Diversion Road worth P432.2-M; Concreting/Wid­ening/Improvement of 31.803-kilome­ter of Bypass Road at Buhangin-Tigat­to-Mandug-Callawa-Fatima Road worth P1.3-B;

Concreting/Widening/Improve­ment of 7.8-kilometer Bypass Road at Jct. Daang Maharlika Road-Mudi­ang-Malagamot-Jct. Indangan Road worth P507.09-M; and, Concreting/Up­grading/Widening of Fatima-Malabog Road-Mabuhay-Pañalum-Paquibato Road for 12.4-kilometers at P633.6-M.

The DPWH said this project is made in coordination with the local government of Davao City which identified the road networks to be made into bypass roads.

The road network is equivalent to 107.923 kilometers. The funding has been included in the 2017 national budget.
