DOH reports 70 percent decline in COVID-19 cases from January to July

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections in the Philippines have dropped by 70 percent so far this year, although health authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant against the virus and other respiratory illnesses.

The Department of Health (DOH) said recently that the country recorded 1,532 confirmed COVID-19 cases from Jan. 4 to July 11, 2026, significantly lower than the 5,070 cases reported during the same period last year.

Despite the sustained decline, the DOH said it continues to closely monitor the situation through its regional offices and local government partners while maintaining nationwide disease surveillance and response mechanisms.

Health officials reminded the public that COVID-19 can range from an asymptomatic infection to a mild or severe respiratory illness. Common symptoms include fever, chills, sore throat, cough, runny or blocked nose, headache, fatigue, muscle pain, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss or changes in taste or smell.

The agency urged Filipinos to continue observing basic health measures, including regular handwashing with soap and water, practicing proper cough and sneeze etiquette, and maintaining good personal hygiene to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases.

People experiencing respiratory symptoms are advised to seek prompt medical consultation at the nearest health center or healthcare facility and follow appropriate health protocols to avoid transmitting the virus to others.

The DOH said it will continue to closely track COVID-19 developments and provide the public with timely and verified health updates.
