DOT to boost golf tourism to entice foreign golfers

The Department of Tourism (DoT) recently unveiled Philippine Golf Experience (GolfEx) – a golf tourism program – at the Mimosa Plus Golf Course in Clark, Pampanga, to promote the country as a premier golfing destination.

DOT Secretary Christina Frasco said the initiative aims to integrate the sport into the national tourism strategy.

Frasco said, “We have always known that the Philippines has all the makings of a world-class golf destination.”

“What we needed is a deliberate effort to place golf within our broader national strategy, not only as a sport, but as an experience that brings together play, culture, as well as community,” she added.

Frasco said DoT is focused on the value of tourism, not just tourist arrivals, highlighting how it strengthens livelihoods, enterprises and community pride.

Clark Development Corporation president Agnes Devanadera said Clark is ready to host major golf tournaments, citing synergy among government and private stakeholders.

The launch event included golf lessons from the Professional Golfers Association of the Philippines, a friendly tournament and a tour of Clark’s historic and leisure sites.
