DOTr, Grab PH forge Active Transport with bike donation

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Grab Philippines distributed bicycles and equipment to 20 recipients as part of the agency’s initiative to encourage the use of bicycles as an alternative form of traveling.

The recipients received pedal-assist bicycles and helmets donated by Grab Philippines to the DOTr’s Active Transport Project Management Office.

The beneficiaries were selected through the Ride to Thrive: Bike Giveaway for Mobility campaign where members of the cycling community nominated deserving candidates.

DOTr is also upgrading pedestrian safety infrastructures along ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

The project includes two (2) raised pedestrian crossings in front of Discovery Suites Manila and Asian Development Bank, to enhance visibility and promote traffic calming— encouraging drivers to slow down and yield to pedestrians.

“Ang road safety po, hindi ‘yan obligasyon lamang ng gobyerno, hindi ‘yan obligasyon ng civil society groups, it’s an obligation of everyone,” said DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport Atty. Mark Steven C. Pastor.

“Kami po ay patuloy na gagawa ng mga proyektong katulad nito upang lalo pang mapalakas at mapasigla ang ating mga siklista at kami po ay nangangako na magbibigay ng imprastraktura at proteksyon sa bawat Pilipinong nagbibisikleta,” Usec. Pastor added.

Through these efforts, the DOTR underscores its commitment to road safety advocacy and raising public awareness on the protection of vulnerable road users.
