DP World Launches Seagrass Restoration Initiative

On World Ocean Day (June 11, 2026), global logistics leader DP World launched its first global seagrass restoration initiative on Geoje Island, South Korea. Formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Green Foundation and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency (FIRA), the project kicked off with volunteers and local fishermen transplanting roughly 6,000 seagrass shoots along the Dadae coastline. The long-term collaboration aims to restore up to 2.4 hectares of coastal marine habitat over the next four years through scientific research, ongoing monitoring, and close public-private cooperation.

This initiative highlights the critical role of seagrass meadows as “blue carbon” ecosystems that naturally absorb carbon, prevent coastal erosion, and boost marine productivity, which directly benefits local fishing livelihoods. FIRA will oversee the ongoing evaluation of the site, while community engagement programs will foster local environmental stewardship. This project aligns with DP World’s broader sustainability commitments across the Asia-Pacific region, which include mangrove restoration in Indonesia, watershed rehabilitation in the Philippines, and coral reef restoration in Australia.
