DPWH builds 708 school buildings for Ilocos region

Hundreds of thousands of Ilocano students are now utilizing 708 new school buildings completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In his report to DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson, DPWH Region 1 Director Melanio C. Briosos said that since 2013, the regional office and its 10 District Engineering Offices (DEOs) were able to complete 406 school buildings under the “School and Regular School Building Program” of the Department of Education (DepEd).

A total of 185 school buildings funded under Basic Facilities in 2013 were also completed, while 92 buildings funded in 2015 for senior high schools, including technical vocational facilities, elementary and junior school were 100-percent accomplished.

Twenty-five more school buildings funded by the Silid Aralan Project of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation were also accomplished by the DPWH.

Briosos said the remaining 229 on-going school-building projects are expected to be completed within the year.

“We aim to finish remaining projects before 2016 ends. This will help in the realization of having a conducive, useful, and enjoyable classroom that may help Ilocano students to become better citizens,” Briosos said.
