Escudero applauds BBM Cabinet shakeup

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero has welcomed President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s call for the courtesy resignation of his Cabinet, saying it’s long overdue for the Chief Executive to purge his inner circle of those who exploited his trust for personal gain.

Escudero said the President’s move to reorganize his official family has allowed him to “distance himself from reckless allies who squandered his goodwill.”

Calling it a “good start,” the Senate leader viewed the directive as a necessary reset that reflects the need for the administration to recalibrate and realign with the people’s demands.

“I view this revamp as a mid-game substitution—a reshuffling of key players based on their performance,” he said, while also stressing that “(through) their ballots, our countrymen told us they want more than just a personnel adjustment.”

He further urged Marcos to go beyond the Cabinet shakeup and look inward: “The President’s course correction must include his entire political house, starting with his own backyard.”

“He must distance himself from (those) who burned through his political capital for selfish ends,” Escudero asserted, emphasizing that the Cabinet shakeup should only begin a broader reform. He added that real progress will require unity and performance from the entire government, beyond political affiliations.
