Far Eastern University will defend its title in the Mayor Kirk Asis Open basketball scheduled June 26-29 in Bayugan City in Agusan del Sur.
Venue of the four-day competition sponsored by Bayugan Mayor Kirk Asis and Vice Mayor Kim Lope Asis and organized by Van Halen Parmis is the Lope Asis Memorial gymnasium.
Also competing are UAAP team. Adamson University and NCAA member Lyceum of the Philippines University and Wingbe Apartelle & Ad Bio Medica OPC selection.
All three Manila-based teams are using the tournament as part of their pre-season buildup.
The Tamaraws emerged as the overall champion in the previous edition of the tournament in 2019 after defeating Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras-Vincare, 84-61, in the championship match.
No tournament was held from 2020 to 2022 due to the pandemic.
Wingbe Apartelle & Ad Bio Medica OPC is guided by the experienced Cebu Institute of Technology University Wildcats head coach, Edsel Vallena.
Although considered the underdogs in the tournament, they are determined to give a tough fight to their opponents and prove that they can compete with some of the best collegiate basketball teams in the country.
Parmis said the invitational tournament offers significant cash prizes for the top-performing teams.
The champion will receive the lion’s share of P300,000
The second-place team will earn P200,000, the third-place team will pocket P150,000, and the fourth-place team will get P100,000.
The Mayor Kirk Asis Open Invitational Basketball Tournament promises to be a thrilling event, with high stakes and fierce battles on the court, according to Parmis.
