Filipinos bow out of World Pool championship

Filipino cue artist Roberto Gomez was defeated by American Skyler Woodward, 7-11, in the round-of-16 at the 2021 World Pool Championship in Milton Keynes, England.

Earlier, another Filipino Jeffrey de Luna lost to Austrian Jasmin Ouschan, ranked 17 by the Women’s Professional Billiards Association.

Gomez failed to sustain the momentum after a 5-2 lead at the start against Woodward who clinched nine of the next 11 racks.

Gomez will no longer be able to play in the quarterfinal of the tournament which he almost won in 2007 after losing to Englishman Daryl Peach in the finals.

Filipino legends Efren “Bata” Reyes, Ronnie Alcano, Django Bustamante and Carlo Biado have won the world title in past editions of the tournament.

Gomez still went home with a $4,000 prize or around P190,000.
