Flood control project enhances safety in Hermosa

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a flood mitigation structure along Mabiga River in Hermosa, Bataan, to regulate the strong water currents and prevent soil erosion along the riverbanks and adjacent land area.

The P72.4-million completed project in Barangay Mabiga, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), spans 558.09 meters and consists of a reinforced concrete slope projection system with an elevated foundation, ensuring structural stability and enhanced flood control.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer Michael Lacanlele highlighted that the project serves as a crucial infrastructure upgrade, minimizing property damage, and reducing transportation delays.

“This flood control project is a necessary step in protecting the community and ensuring safer conditions for residents and commuters who experience frequent flooding in the area,” Lancanlele said.

Lacanlele added, “It will contribute to the local economic growth by preventing disruptions to transportation that commence during the extreme weather event”.
