Golf courses outside Metro Manila reopen

Golf courses outside the National Capital Region (NCR) resumed operations May 16 to accommodate recreational golfers with the onset of new normal under general community quarantine (GCQ). Other courses are expected to follow soon.

Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite; Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental; and Edward Andrews Air Base Golf Club in Zamboanga City have reopened since May 16 while the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac City is back in operation May 17.

“Only residents of Cavite are allowed to play here or [those] who [own] business establishments [here],” said Orchard Golf Director Francis Montallana.

In compliance to GCQ guidelines, golf courses are temporarily limiting access to members aged between 21 and 59.

The National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) is discussing the age restriction and other issues with higher authorities.

The NGAP earlier reminded all clubs in the country to enforce policies such as physical distancing, face mask, no touching, disinfecting and only three golfers per flight.

Four more golf courses reopened May 18: Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Bacolod City; Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in General Trias, Cavite; Iloilo Golf and Country Club in the island of Panay; and the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Bacolod.

Sherwood Hills Golf and Country Club in Trece Martirez, Cavite will resume operations May 19 while others, such as Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Batangas, will reopen on May 20 together with Tagaytay Highlands Midlands and Valley Golf and Country Club in Cainta.

On May 23, Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite will open its doors, and the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite will be back in business June 1.

Reopening of golf courses in Davao City remains uncertain after Mayor Sarah Duterte-Carpio disallowed its reopening. Golf courses inside the NCR and Laguna province remain closed as they are still under the modified enhanced community quarantine.
