Jaecoo J7 SHS enters competitive hybrid market

The international best-seller Jaecoo J7 SHS officially enters the local auto scene during the launch of the new hybrid vehicle last Friday at The Blue Leaf in Taguig City.

Top officials of Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines, led by its country director Marc Zhang and Brand Director Johanna Peng, led in the formal introduction of the globally popular hybrid vehicle that uses a fifth-generation hybrid-dedicated engines that is paired with an intelligent hybrid system and a high-performance battery pack.

The Jaecoo J7 SHS is available in two variants for the Philippine market –the Comfort priced at P1,449,000 and the Premium which comes in at P1,549,000. As part of its launch campaign, a special introductory price until Sept. 15, will be offered at P1,399,000 for the Comfort variant and P1,499,000 for the Premium variant, giving early adopters exceptional value for a premium hybrid driving experience.

The Jaecoo J7 SHS is a premium vehicle with a focus on luxury and off-roading capabilities and features a boxy, vertical front grille with LED lights and 19-inch wheels. It also offers a smooth and comfortable ride, with good absorption of road imperfections. It is a strong contender in the plug-in hybrid SUV market, offering a blend of style, technology, and efficiency at a competitive price of only P1.449-million with 2 years of free PMS.

Using the new super hybrid system, driving the Jaecoo J7 SHS seamlessly switches between full-electric and petrol engines which easily takes away the problem on battery charging since there is the available gasoline anytime.

Driving is so easy and silent with rapid acceleration available because of the full-electric engine while the petrol hybrid engine is always available when it is needed. It features an 18.3 kWh lithium-ion battery right beneath the floor that is capable of putting up a pure electric driving range of up to 106 kms. The battery has the ability to recharge from 30-80% in just over 20 minutes, no worrying on charging and/or stopping. (Battery charging is handled by a CCS Type 2 port. AC charging from 30 to 80 percent takes 180 minutes using 6.6 kW, while DC fast charging at 40 kW takes 20 minutes for the same level). 

Paired with a 1.5L turbocharged gas engine, the Jaecoo J7 SHS can deliver a combined output of 255kW horsepower and a very powerful 525Nm of torque. A full tank holds 60 liters of fuel, supporting long trips when the battery runs out. It has a very impressive 1,200-km of combined driving range on a single tank with a fully charged battery. 

Due to regenerative braking and optimized power distribution of the Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and electric motor, the J7 SHS achieves a very impressive fuel consumption of 1-liter of gasoline per 100 kms. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 8.4 seconds. The vehicle intelligently switches between four modes – Full Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid, and Energy Recovery (regenerative braking).

Jaecoo J7 SHS is a five-seater hybrid crossover that runs on a front-wheel-drive setup. It measures 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,670 mm high. Its wheelbase spans 2,672 mm, and the ground clearance reaches 174 mm. Approach and departure angles are 20 degrees and 28 degrees, while its wading depth is 450 mm.

There is seamless connectivity while inside what with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto effortlessly integrate with compatible devices, providing hands-free access to navigation, music, calls, and apps for a safer and more connected driving experience. The 10.25″ LCD Cluster displays all the essential driving information while the larger 14.8″ touchscreen allows you to easily navigate through intelligent features including a 360 degree around view monitor.

For safety, the Jaecoo J7 SHS comes with six airbags — front, side, and curtain — and also features automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and lane departure warnings, blind spot detection, intelligent high beam control, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, and emergency lane keeping. Cameras are included, with the comfort trim getting reverse view and the premium offering 360-degree with surround view. Voice alerts are present for door open warnings. All units have electronic door locks, ISOFIX anchors, and key safety sensors for assisted driving.

Chassis features include a MacPherson front suspension and multi-link rear suspension setup. It uses ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid discs at the rear. The premium variant rolls on 235/50 R19 wheels, while the comfort variant comes with 215/55 R18 wheels.
