Jimuel debuts in San Diego fight

Jimuel Pacquiao, eldest son of Manny Pacquiao, will see action in a three-round amateur bout at The House of Boxing today in San Diego, California.

Sean Gibbons, who runs the Pacquiao-owned MP Promotions, said Jimuel’s opponent will be Andres “The Thorn” Rosales of Rain Cross Boxing Academy of Riverside, California.

Fighting out of Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club of Hollywood, Jimuel had been training in the United States since August.

He didn’t join his father home after the Yordenis Ugas defeat and continued training under Roach, who was the eight-division world champion’s cornerman from 2001 until his retirement in 2022.

Before deciding to relocate to America, Jimuel had also spent long training hours in the Philippines.

Although he has been given the chance to box by his father, it doesn’t mean he will eventually turn professional.

The senior Pacquiao said he hasn’t spoken to Jimuel. “If I am the one fighting, I don’t feel nervous but if it’s my son,” he said with a smile. But Pacquiao feels everything’s going to be fine. “He’s fighting in the amateurs anyway. Not pro,” he said.
