The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opened to traffic two new lanes of the Laguna Lake Highway, formerly known as C-6 Dike Road.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar said, “The opening of the additional two lanes from from Napindan to M. L. Quezon section in Taguig City is the first phase of the Laguna Lake Highway project, which is expected to reduce travel time from Taytay to Bicutan by about 50%.”
The total allocation for the 10.7 km road network is P1.2289 Billion, which covers the construction or widening of two bridges, rehabilitation or concreting of the 10.28 kms existing asphalt road with provision of additional two lanes, including construction of 2-meter wide planting strips and 3 meter bike lane.
“The thrust of the Duterte administration is to ensure not only mobility of vehicles but also individuals. More bike lanes, sidewalks will be installed throughout the country,” he said.
Complementing the widened road is the on-going construction of additional two lanes at Napindan Bridge 2,
which is expected to be completed by December 2017.
Villar said that travelers between Rizal and Makati/Taguig would benefit the most from improvements of the road capacity as well as travel speeds along the Laguna Lake Highway.
“With this highway, the traffic from Edsa and C5 will be greatly reduced”, Villar added.
In the past, the DPWH has also widened and paved the C-6 Extension in the Lupang Arenda area of Taytay, Rizal.
When completed, Laguna Lake Highway is expected to reduce travel time from Taytay to Bicutan from 1 hour to only about 30 minutes.
