Being mortals portraying diverse characters of mortality except taking on supernatural delineations onscreen, movie, television and theater luminaries, they, as Christians take pauses and pay homage to Jesus Christ’s sacrifices to save mankind from damnation.

One of them is playing Jesus Christ Himself onstage or on cam.

On March 25, 2024 at 6 pm at the Kartilya ng Katipunan in Ermita, Manila and on March 27, 2024 at 7 pm at Plaza Hugo in Sta. Ana, Manila, actor Lance Raymundo plays Jesus Christ in the 35th presentation of the passion play “Martir sa Golgota” under the direction of award-winning thespian and politician Lou Veloso, Jr. for Tanghalang Santa Ana.

Meanwhile, on March 28, 2024 at 7 pm, Holy Thursday, the Philstagers of actor-director-writer-producer Vince Tañada will stage “Senakulo” (a traditional theater on the passion of Jesus Christ), a musical at the PSF Black Box Theater in Calabash Road in Balic-Balic, Sampaloc, Manila.

This is one way of Vince’s religious vows and thanksgiving to, as we quote from a story by scribe Robert Manuguid Silverio, “one POWERFUL GOD.”

“…the artistic talents of Vince is a gift from God. Thus, it is payback time. After 23 years of directing and performing for Philippine Stagers Foundation, Vince wants to celebrate and glorify Jesus Christ…,” said Robert in his blog.

According to Silverio, it’s Tañada’s first time  to act and sing in a passion play.

He’s not revealing his role here, though.

Both plays are free admission. BOY VILLASANTA
