What are friends for?
Actor-politician Lito Lapid believes in this mantra.
Long before the likes of action-stars-turned-senators Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. and Robin Padilla, Ronnie Ricketts, Cesar Montano, Edu Manzano and their contemporaries, there were already Lito, now also senator and action king Rhene Imperial in the burgeoning kiss-kiss, bang-bang department of the local adventure genre.
Known for the films “Boy Singkit,” “Boy Nazareno,” “Maneng Tirador,” “Ninong,” “Death Row,” “Pareng Hapon,” etc., Rhene was able to establish himself as a box-office star and to keep friends and associates in the biz.
One of Imperial’s bosom friends in the local entertainment scene is Senator Lapid.
“Marami na kaming panagsanahan ni Pareng Lito. Sanggang-dikit kami n’yan (Fellow sponsor in wedding Lito and I have so many shared experiences. We are supporter of each other),” said Rhene.
Lapid didn’t mince words to recommend and endorse Imperial to join the cast of ABS-CBN’s “Batang Quiapo.”
“Mabait talaga si Pareng Lito (He is really kind),” the Joseph Estrada dead ringer attested.
According to Rhene, he was already informed by a staff of “Batang Quiapo” to submit all needed requirements for his inclusion in the top-rated action caper.
