The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a driver of a black Ford Ranger who allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing property damage in Metro Manila.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said Friday that the incident, which was posted on the Facebook page “Yamato Kenji,” is being examined to determine whether it was due to a medical condition or another cause.
“While it was stated in the video that the driver fell asleep, we want to know what really happened,” Mendoza said.
The footage shows the pickup truck moving slowly along the road while concerned motorists attempt to wake the driver.
In a show cause order issued by the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division, the registered owner of the vehicle (plate no. NHD 3814) has been summoned to identify the driver and clarify reports that the person behind the wheel was intoxicated.
Possible violations include reckless driving, driving under the influence of liquor, and unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle.
To prevent any transactions involving the vehicle while the investigation is ongoing, the LTO has temporarily placed it on alarm.
