Maynilad Water Services Inc. has started a sewer network project along Dr. A. Santos Avenue in Parañaque City.
According to Maynilad, the project involves the laying of 77 kilometers of sewer lines that will convey wastewater generated by households to the company’s Parañaque Sewage Treatment Plant. This ensures the proper collection and treatment of harmful effluents, thus, protecting community health and the environment.
The sewer pipes—with diameter sizes ranging from 350 millimeters to 1,350mm—will be installed along the westbound side (Baclaran-bound) of the avenue, from the corner of Sorena Ave. (Shopwise) to the corner of C.P. Garcia Extension (SM Sucat).
During this period, one of the three westbound lanes on Dr. A. Santos Ave. will be closed to traffic. However, two lanes will be closed at night, when traffic volume is at its lightest.
To minimize traffic and public inconvenience, additional traffic enforcers will be deployed to the site. One lane on the eastbound side will also be made available for counterflow traffic when needed.
Meanwhile, U-turn slots will be used when a section of the work requires the temporary closure of an intersection.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
Maynilad is closely coordinating with Parañaque City’s Traffic Management Office to manage traffic flow along the project area.
Likewise, to help ensure public safety, work sites will be fully enclosed by board-up barricades, with appropriate lighting and traffic or warning signs. Motorists and pedestrians passing through the area are also reminded to strictly observe traffic rules and road-safety regulations.
The target completion of the project is in the third quarter of 2017. The project will benefit some 470,000 people in nine barangays and 95 subdivisions. Funded by the Development Bank of the Philippines and Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), the project is part of Maynilad’s program to expedite the provision of sewerage and sanitation services in Metro Manila.
