Developer Megawide Construction Corporation, under the leadership of its CEO Ed Saavedra, hopes to duplicate its showcase achievement in building the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), this time for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the country’s main gateway.
Megawide aims to transform the NAIA to be the best airport in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
Last year, the MCIA Terminal 2 won the “Completed Buildings-Transport” category at the World Architecture Festival, besting Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport and other world-class global projects. Changi is recognized as the “best airport in the world.”
Megawide and GMR of India, the fourth largest airport operator in the world, built the multi-awarded MCIA and Clark International Airport. The partners are now focused on tackling a rehabilitation project that so many before them have tried and failed.
President Duterte, through his cabinet secretaries, is rushing to complete majority of the Build-Build-Build projects which includes a redeveloped NAIA airport.
In a September 2020 article by the Asean Post, BBB was mentioned as a top priority of Duterte’s administration. The government has allocated approximately P8 trillion for roughly 20,000 nationwide infrastructure projects.
