Right-of-way acquisition for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is nearing completion, with authorities targeting full acquisition by June as construction advances across key stations.
At the groundbreaking of the Shaw Boulevard Station on Friday, Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez reported that overall right-of-way (ROW) acquisition has reached 90.92 percent. Pre-construction activities for the Shaw Boulevard Station, he added, are almost complete.
“Tuloy-tuloy na ang konstruksyon ng mga istasyon ng subway sa Pasig. Malaking tulong ito sa mga komyuter lalo na sa mga nagtatrabaho sa Ortigas business district. Mas mapapadali at mabilis na ang kanilang biyahe (The construction of subway stations in Pasig continues. This would be a big help to commuters, especially those working in the Ortigas business district. Their commutes will be easier and faster),” Lopez said.
The Pasig segment, covered by Contract Package 104, involves the construction of the Ortigas Avenue and Shaw Boulevard underground stations and tunnels. The package was awarded to the Tokyu-Tobishima-Megawide Joint Venture and spans 3.397 kilometers, linking Quezon City, Pasig and Taguig.
The Ortigas Avenue Station will rise along Meralco Avenue at the corner of Ortigas and Julia Vargas avenues, while the Shaw Boulevard Station will be built beside Estancia Mall along Meralco Avenue corner Shaw Boulevard.
The MMSP is scheduled for completion by 2032.
During the ceremony, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. described the subway as a “sustainable and long-term” response to Metro Manila’s traffic woes, noting that implementation is proceeding on schedule and even moving “even more quickly” than originally planned.
