Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) continues its streak as the Philippines’ Strongest Bank for the sixth straight year, according to The Asian Banker (TAB). This reinforces the Bank’s position as one of the country’s most resilient and trusted financial institutions.
“Our strength comes from the trust our customers place in us and the dedication of our Metrobankers, who remain committed to delivering financial solutions that help our clients succeed in different market conditions. This recognition reflects how we continue to grow stronger together with our clients, communities, and partners through every challenge and opportunity,” said Metrobank President Fabian S. Dee.
“As we look ahead, we will continue to strengthen our capabilities, manage risks prudently, and create long-term value for all our stakeholders,” Dee added.
The recognition is part of The Asian Banker’s annual ranking of the world’s 1,000 largest and strongest banks, which evaluates institutions based on key measures of financial performance, balance sheet strength, asset quality, liquidity, and risk management.
Awardees are selected through a rigorous and transparent evaluation process, with institutional performance reviewed by an independent panel of central bankers, global financial experts, and research professionals.
Established in Singapore in 1997, The Asian Banker is a leading provider of research and intelligence for the financial services industry. Through its global awards program, it recognizes excellence in banking, digital transformation, and leadership across Asia-Pacific and other markets.
Metrobank continued to deliver solid financial results. In the first half of 2026, the Bank posted a net income of PHP 24.9 billion.
Asset quality remained strong, with the non-performing loans (NPL) ratio standing at 1.8%, significantly lower than the industry average of 3.4%. The Bank also maintained a robust NPL cover of 133.3%, providing a substantial buffer against potential risks.
Total consolidated assets grew by 12.7% to PHP 3.9 trillion, while total equity stood at PHP 409.7 billion.
Metrobank’s balance sheet remained solid, with a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 14.9% and a Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of 14.2%, both comfortably above regulatory requirements.
The recognition adds to a growing list of industry honors received by Metrobank this year. The Bank won the prestigious Cesar E.A. Virata Award, the highest recognition at the 2026 PDS Annual Awards, and secured top rankings in both the Local Currency Bonds and G3 Bonds categories at the Asset Benchmark Research Awards 2026, affirming its leadership in the Philippine capital markets.
