Japanese businesses in the Philippines will soon experience a heightened adoption of solar energy solutions.
This became clear as MSpectrum Inc., a subsidiary of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has formed a joint venture with two Tokyo-based firms to accelerate the solar adoption of Japanese businesses in the Philippines.
The Meralco unit will establish MSpectrum Taiyo Inc. with Tokyo Century Corp. and JFE Engineering Corp. (JFEE) to jointly build, own and operate ground-mounted and rooftop solar projects for industrial facilities.
MSpectrum Chairman Ronnie Aperocho said this “partnership aims to contribute to the country’s broader energy transition by expanding access to clean and reliable energy solutions, helping businesses manage energy costs, reduce carbon emissions and enhance their long-term competitiveness.”
Under their joint venture agreement, MSpectrum will take a majority stake of 60 percent, while Tokyo Century and JFEE will hold 30 percent and 10 percent, respectively.
Meralco chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said the strategic partnership is built not only on trust but also on shared commitment to innovation and sustainable growth.
“It is this combination of strengths that allows us to deliver more reliable, more efficient and more scalable solar solutions to commercial and industrial customers in the Philippines, helping businesses become more productive, more competitive and better prepared for the future,” Pangilinan added.
The partnership aims to support Japanese enterprises in their transition to clean energy by delivering solar solutions and capturing opportunities in the country’s expanding commercial and industrial solar sector.
JFEE is expected to leverage its extensive experience in energy and infrastructure projects, while Tokyo Century will bring its global financing expertise into the joint venture.
“As demand for carbon neutrality continues to grow, we believe this collaboration will help businesses achieve their sustainability goals,” JFEE managing director Atsushi Kobayashi said.
Tokyo Century senior managing executive officer Toshio Kitamura, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of accelerating renewable energy adoption, citing rising electricity demand fueled by rapid economic growth.
