National gymnasts to compete in 2 international tournaments

The country’s top artistic gymnasts are scheduled to compete in two international tournaments next month, the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) announced recently.

GAP Secretary General Bettina Pou said the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has approved the trips to Japan and Russia.

Senior gymnasts Reyland Capellan, Jag Gwynn Timbang, Cristina Onofre and Katrina Evangelista will see action in the Toyota Cup artistic competition slated Dec. 2 to 12 in Aichi, Japan.

Juniors Chloe Gatlabayan, Mariana Hermoso, Samantha Bustria and Rosanna Nolido, on the other hand, will join the Mikhail Voronin Cup from Dec. 17 to 22 in Moscow, Russia.

”Our athletes are currently training in preparation for the two tournaments,” said Pou.

The GAP official said that it is the first time that the national gymnasts are participating in Moscow.

”Most of the junior athletes who will compete in the Voronin Cup will be seniors next year and they may be the ones selected for the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia in 2017,” said Pou. PNA
