NCSC, DSWD plays sweet music together for senior citizenry

The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) seem to be playing sweet music together these days.. And why not? That is just what the doctors ordered for our beloved senior citizens.

In a bid to unify and synchronize its programs and policies for the elderlies, the twin agencies held a two-day joint meeting on Tuesday to iron out details of the Change Management Team (CMT) and prepare for the turnover of duties and functions related to seniors at the DSWD Agency Operations Center, Batasan Hills in Quezon City.

The joint meeting also touched on the plans and programs to enhance and solidify the ongoing transition of DSWD’s functions for the elderlies to the NCSC.

Present at the  meeting  were DSWD-CMT Dir. Maricel Deloria, Asec. Irene Dumlao, Asec. Elaine Fallarcuna and Dir. Wayne Belizar and NCSC Chairman Franklin Quijano and Commissioners Reymar Mansilungan, Ida Patron-Yap, Rainier Cruz, Edwin Espejo and Enriqueta Rodeles (via Zoom) for the NCSC side.

On Thursday, another round of  virtual meeting was held to discuss a joint plan of action in addressing two important matters concerning senior citizens.

The DSWD Social Marketing Service (SMS) and NCSC officials discussed ways and means for a unified stand on the development of communication materials.

Both camps agreed on synchronized dissemination of information on the registration of senior citizens and unified messaging and communication on the implementation of Republic Act 11916 to stakeholders.

RA 11916 is an Act increasing the social pension of indigent senior citizens from P500 to P1,000 monthly and appropriating funds for the purpose. Attending for the NCSC side were Commissioners Rainier Cruz, Enriqueta Rodeles and Reymar Mansilungan, who suggested that a Technical Working Group (TWG) should be created to formulate the style, guidelines and narrative of all major areas of concern.

Also in attendance were DSWD-SMS officials Sherry Anne C. Tabogoc, who presided over the meeting and Ana Marie Daep.

NCSC Technical Consultant for Media and Public Relations Mike Jamisola was tasked to name the members of the NCSC Technical Working Group (TWG) while Ms. Tabogoc takes charge in composing the members for the DSWD side.

The joint meeting also touched on the plans for the said two important items in the ongoing transition of DSWD’s function relating to senior citizens to the NCSC.

The Commission is currently embarking on an aggressive data-banking drive in relation to the ongoing transfer of functions and programs like the social pension fund for senior citizens from the DSWD.

The NCSC has also added into its senior citizen data forms some vital information to include the older person’s source of income, skill set and health profile among others.
