Quezon Huskers rip Bacolod in MPBL

The Quezon Huskers flaunted their depth and power in a 76-55 drubbing of Bacolod City of Smiles on Friday in the MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) Sixth Season at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

With 12 of the 14 Huskers fielded contributing at least two points, Quezon led by as far as 70-47 before cruising to their fifth straight win in the round-robin elimination phase of the 29-team tournament.

The Huskers joined the San Juan Knights at the top of the standings.

Homegrown Rodel Gravera and veteran Gab Banal led Quezon’s balanced offense with 11 points each, followed by Will Gozum and Judel Fuentes with 10 and 9 points, respectively. Banal, a former league MVP when he was the star of the Bacoor Strikers, was chosen the game’s best player.

Xyrus Torres contributed 8 points and Thomas Torres 7 for Quezon Coach Eric Gonzales.

Bacolod, which tumbled to 1-6, got 10 points and 10 rebounds from Danny Marilao and 8 points from Tricky Dyn Peromingan.

The MPBL visits the Nueva Ecija Coliseum in Palayan City on Saturday with another triple bill pitting Sarangani against Paranaque at 4 p.m., Bulacan against Davao at 6 p.m. and Manila against Nueva Ecija at 8 p.m.
