Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Wednesday formally received the proposed P6.793-trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP) from Budget and Management Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, marking the start of the Senate’s in-depth review of next year’s spending plan.
The 2026 budget proposal prioritizes quality and accessible education, stronger healthcare systems, wider social protection for vulnerable sectors, and a secure food supply across the country.
Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, Finance Committee Chair Sen. Win Gatchalian, and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano joined the ceremony, along with senior Senate officials.
The Upper Chamber will hold a series of committee hearings and public consultations in the coming weeks, aiming to pass the budget before the end of the year to ensure that programs addressing the nation’s evolving needs are implemented without delay. JINKY JORGIO
