Senate creates Sports High

The Senate has passed on final reading the bill establishing Philippine High School for Sports to enable young students attain their full athletic potential. 

Senate Bill No. 1086 or an act creating and establishing the Philippine High School for Sports (PHSS) that provides training of students with athletic abilities for competitive sports was unanimously supported by all 21 senators. 

The PHSS will be under the Department of Education (DepEd) in collaboration with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for policy and program formulation and implementation on pertinent sports subjects. 

The organizational structure and staffing pattern of the school will be submitted by the DepEd to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for evaluation and approval. 

In compliance with Republic Act No. 10533 or the “Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013,” the PHSS will provide its students with quality secondary education in their chosen track which will not be limited to the sports.
