Janet Bordon, the Filipino actress who died of stomach cancer in the United States of America on September 22, 2021, was a well-loved person while she was active in the movies.
It is the reason why a lot of her friends and colleagues mourned her passing. Filmmaker Arman Reyes said “Janet was a very quiet sweet lady—walang yabang, walang angas (no show off, no arrogance). No feeling of entitlement.”
Arman, who was the Creative Department Head of the defunct Agrix Films, had worked with Bordon in two films under the outfit in the early 1980s, namely “Star” with Vic Silayan, Rudy Fernandez, Lorna Tolentino, Eddie Garcia, Celia Rodriguez, Pepito Rodriguez, Julie Ann Fortich and Fanny Serrano under the direction of George Rowe and “Apat na Maria” with Charo Santos, Lorna Tolentino and Julie Ann Fortich with Maryo J. de los Reyes at the helm.
Director John Ad. Castillo, brother of the late Celso Ad. Castillo—the so-called Messiah of Philippine Cinema—was surprised when the news of Janet’s death reached him. “I have worked with her in the first film version of Celso’s classic ‘Virgin People’ as she is cast with Pepsi Paloma and Myrna Castillo. This movie is where she made her mark in the industry. Such a professional actress. Nakikiramay po sa mga naiwan ni (My condolences with the loved ones left by) Ms Janet,” said John.
Entertainment writer Melchor Bautista, Facebook friend of Bordon and other showbiz people who recently departed wrote on his social media posts: “MABIGAT SA DIBDIB mo, at nakakaiyak gawin mag-delete ng pangalan ng mga kaibigan mo sa Facebook, dahil namayapa na sila. Ganun ang naramdaman ko, maiiyak nang burahin ko ang mga pangalan nina (It’s heavy on my chest and teary-eyed when I deleted the names of friends on Facebook because they are already gone. That’s what I felt, sad to erase the names of ALBERT ALMENDRALIJO, ROEL VILLACORTA, at (and) JANET BORDON).”
Beauty and actress Azenith Briones was sad as well about the passing of her friend and contemporary in showbiz in the late 1970s and early 1980s. “Rest in peace, my friend Janet Bordon. Condolences to the whole family,” noted Azenith.
Entertainment news hen Mercy Lejarde was shocked at Janet’s sudden death. “Feeling such that former actress Janet Bordon died in the US,” Mercy sighed likewise movie writer Robert Silvero who said that Janet was one of his late dad talent manager Rino Fernan Silverio’s protégées.
Female reporter Beth Galena in her Facebook spaces noted these revelations: “My friend double V (Vilma Vitug) sent me this video she made in the memory of her friend Janet Bordon. She told me a day before Janet passed away NAGPAPARAMDAM eto sa kanya (sent foreboding signs to her). Then at about 10: 06 p.m., September 22 (U.S. time) someone called her that Janet was gone. According to my friend they have many memories she could not forget. 2012 daw ng huling maoperahan si (was the last time Janet went under the knife) Janet. As a true friend, inalagaan din niya ang kaibigan… pinapasaya (she took care and made her happy).
“She remembered pa ng 2013 ng maaksidente sila ni Janet sakay ng kanyang (They met an accident while they were in Vilma’s) Porsche car. She allowed Janet to drive the car when the BMW hits their car.
“Halos ikamatay daw nila yun (It was a near-death experience) especially Janet coz she could not get out dahil naipit ito (she was trapped inside the care). What double V did pumasok daw uli siya sa car… (Vilma went inside the car again) kumbaga (it was like) DO or DIE na come what may. Janet told her na magpray sila ng (to pray the) Hail Mary which is good dahil (because) the police are coming to rescue them…
“Back to Janet’s operation nung 2012 tumagal pa rin ang buhay ni Janet ng (she survived in) nine years. RIP Janet Bordon,” echoed the reporter.
US-based actress Edna Diaz sent her sympathies to the Bordon family. Edna recalled Janet’s appearance with her and Tina Monasterio in the comedy project “Mr. Wong and the Bionic Girls.”
Kin Joji Bordon Tolentino said: “A beautiful person, doting daughter, amazing mother, great & loving sister, wonderful aunt & in-law, kind & generous friend… but most of all a “ precious daughter” of our Most High God.
“You will be sorely missed our beautiful sister Nets…Rest in the Eternal Kingdom of God. We love you very much!”
