The SM Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of the SM Group of Companies, has announced that it finished the first phase of the renovation and refurbishment of the Philippine Military Academy’s (PMA) Fort del Pilar Station Hospital in Baguio City, Benguet province.
The hospital is the 13th facility to be renovated and refurbished by the SM Foundation, and it hosts the 105th Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Center in the country. Renovated was the operating and delivery room complex, as well as the officers and cadets’ ward of the hospital.
Besides renovating the hospital the SM Foundation also donated brand new medical equipment to support the facility’s needs. This includes an anesthesia machine, operating-room light-emitting diode lights, multiparameter monitors, electrocardiogram units, a portable ultrasound machine, infusion pumps, and a heavy-duty suction machine. The foundation also donated other furnishings for the officers and cadets’ wards.
The second phase of the renovation will continue the refurbishment of the cadets’ ward, as well as the reconstruction of the second-floor pediatric room and reception area, which will become a Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Center for Children.
The 50-bed-capacity hospital, which provides medical services to cadets, military personnel and their dependents, authorized civilians, was downgraded last year because of its decrepit facilities. With the renovation and new equipment, the hospital’s level is expected to regain its Level 2 Department of Health-accreditation.
For the past several years, the SM Foundation has been helping renovate and refurbish military facilities in recognition of the Philippine military’s role in the defense and security of the country.
The foundation also takes cognizance of the active participation of the military in disaster-relief operations.
