Stanley Ng, former PAL chief, appointed DOT Usec

Capt. Stanley K. Ng, past president and chief operating officer of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has reportedly been appointed Undersecretary at the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Capt. Ng is a licensed PAL pilot and currently Vice President of PAL Holdings Inc., the flag carrier’s parent unit.

Ng will replace Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar, DOT Undersecretary of Halal Tourism and Muslim Concerns.

Abubakar confirmed her departure from DOT, saying a Malacañang order indicated that Stanley Ng will be appointed as her replacement.

Ng has yet to take his oath as Undersecretary.

Ng’s appointment to the DOT was the first to be signed by Pres. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. after designating Ma. Bernadita Angara-Mathay as Tourism Secretary. Ng is married to Lilibeth Tan, a fellow licensed PAL pilot and daughter of PAL Chairman Dr. Lucio C. Tan Sr..

Ng left PAL on May 29, 2025, after the airline earned approximately P47 billion in total revenues in the first quarter of 2025, up by 2.5% in the same period the previous year.

By law, Ng will have to resign from all private employment and to divest his shares in all private companies or businesses when he assumes the post of DOT Usec for Special Concerns and Administration.

Earlier, Sec. Angara-Mathay asked for the courtesy resignation of key DOT officials.

She has promoted Regional Director for Central Visayas Shahlimar Hofer Tamano to Undersecretary for TRCRG and Chief of Staff, and Director for Office of Public Affairs and Advocacy Czarina Ina-Loyola to Assistant Secretary; and appointed Roberto P. Alabado III as Director for Film and Sports Tourism Development and OIC-Director for Mimaropa.

Angara-Mathay was recently with Pres. Marcos during his state visit in Japan. She was instrumental in the Chief Executive securing some P209.1 billion in investment pledges from Japanese investors, including some P100.86 billion in tourism investments.
