Taiwan Night in UST unveils rich tradition of performance arts

A vibrant cultural showcase featuring music, dance, and acrobatics of outstanding Filipino and Taiwanese performers was staged at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Frassati Auditorium, on February 27, 2026. From choral harmonies to dynamic dance performances and gravity-defying acrobatics,  the event highlighted the rich artistic traditions of both nations through a meaningful cross-cultural exchange.

Representing the Philippines were the talented young singers of the UST Junior High School Glee Club and the internationally acclaimed UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe. Renowned for their excellence and dynamic stage presence, they brought to life the vibrancy of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and traditional Filipino dances.

Joining them as special guests from Taiwan were performers from the prestigious National Taiwan College of Performing Arts and the Taiwan Acrobatic Troupe. Their participation forms part of the 2026 Lunar New Year Goodwill Mission Asia Tour, further strengthening cultural ties across the region through artistic collaboration.

The 2026 Philippine–Taiwan Night was presented in partnership with the Taiwan Overseas Community Affairs Council, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, and the University of Santo Tomas, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering goodwill and mutual understanding between the Filipino and Taiwanese communities.

In recent years, Philippine–Taiwan Night at UST has featured distinguished performers, including the University of Santo Tomas Singers—two-time winners of the Luciano Pavarotti Choir of the World trophy, aboriginal artist and Golden Melody Award winner Sangpuy KatatepanMavaliyw,  Grammy Award-winning Chairman Band (2025), acrobat Tu Wei-Cheng, world magic champion Jeff Lee, and pop singer Yvonne Jeng Yi (2023).

This marks the seventh Philippine–Taiwan Night hosted at UST since its inception in 2016 in partnership with the Taiwan Youth Ambassadors.
