Tennis star Alberto “AJ” Lim, Jr. recently participated at the Australian Open Junior Championships in Melbourne.
Lim, 17, was flown by Philippine Airlines (PAL) to the event that drew over 600 tennis players from around 65 countries. Another Filipino, Treat Huey, also represented the country in the Men’s Doubles and Mix Doubles events.
He won against Bang Shuo Yin of Chinese Taipei with the score of 6-4, 6-4 and advanced to the second round.
His brimming self-confidence enabled him to give his best to win. But he admitted that he could have done better. “But overall, a win is a win. Not all players win because they played good, it’s based on how hungry the player is to win,” he adds.
Lim made his mark when he became one of the youngest champions in the history of International Tennis Federation (ITF) – Junior Division at 13 in 2012.
He also became the youngest winner of the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Championships, the first time he joined the competition in 2015.
Last year, PAL flew him to China for the F10 Futures International tournament.
PAL, through its flagship CSR Program #RPRSNT Pinoy!, flies promising Filipinos to compete in international competitions and tournaments to represent the best of the Philippines to the world.
