BAYUGAN City, Agusan del Sur – ARQ Builders-Far Eastern University Tamaraws flaunted their skills as they emerged victorious over the Bustamante Construction-Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 65-58, in the 2023 Mayor Kirk Asis Open Basketball Tournament at the Lope Asis Memorial Gymnasium here Wednesday.
Xyrus Torres, who was named as the “Best Player of the Game”, finished with a team-high 18 points and three rebounds to lead the Tamaraw to their second straight win in the four-team tournament being held in this city known as the “Cut Flower Capital” of Agusan del Sur.
The outstanding performance by Torres also propelled the Tamaraws to the top spot in the tournament standings.
But it was not all Torres for FEU.
James Tempra and Royce Alforque also stepped up big for the Denok Miranda-mentored Tamaraws and contributed 12 points apiece.
Mouhamed Fatty also stood out on the defensive end for FEU as he grabbed a game-high14 rebounds and blocked four shot attempts by the Falcons.
Jerom Lastimosa was the lone bright spot for the Falcons, finishing in double digits with 13 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Unfortunately, Lastimosa’s performance was not enough to lift his team to victory.
