Toyota Motor reigns as global sales champ for sixth straight year

Toyota Motor has once again claimed the crown as the world’s best-selling automaker, marking its sixth consecutive year at the top with a staggering 5.5 million vehicles sold globally from January to June 2025.

The Japanese automotive giant posted a 7.4% increase in global sales compared to the same period last year, achieving its highest-ever half-year sales.

Backed by strong domestic and overseas demand, Toyota’s performance reflected a 27.4% surge in sales in Japan, totaling 1 million vehicles, while international sales rose 3.6% to 4.5 million units. The tally includes vehicles from group companies Daihatsu and Hino, known for minicars and trucks, respectively.

In key markets, Toyota’s momentum continued. Sales in the United States jumped 4.2% to 1.24 million units, while sales in China rose 6.8% to 837,744 units.

Toyota also outpaced its closest competitor, Volkswagen AG, which recorded a modest 1.3% increase in global vehicle sales, reaching 4.41 million units in the same period.

With this performance, Toyota not only cemented its leadership in the global auto industry but also raised the bar amid growing competition and shifting consumer trends.

As demand for reliable and diversified vehicle options continues to rise worldwide, Toyota’s consistent innovation and market reach have helped it stay firmly in the driver’s seat.
