2015 Milo Little Olympics opens with new legs, sports

Top beverage brand Milo once again welcomed young athletes to the 2015 Milo Little Olympics, regarded as the most recognized and longest-running inter-school youth sports competition in the Philippines.

Now on its 28th year, the Milo Little Olympics is bringing new and exciting things to young Filipino athletes. There are now four elimination legs in the competition, hosted by key cities in North Luzon, South Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Two regional legs—the Visayas and South Luzon—are moved to Iloilo City in Iloilo province and Santa Rosa City in Laguna province, respectively. These two new venues will be home to the participating student-athletes in their respective regions.

The first leg commenced in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental province, from August 21 to 23. The second leg will take place in Santa Rosa from Aug. 28 to 30; the third, in Baguio City, Benguet province (September 4 to 6); and the fourth, in Iloilo (Sept. 11 to 13). Winners from the elimination legs will represent their region in the 2015 Milo Little Olympics National Finals in Santa Rosa, which will run from October 23 to 25.

In addition, budding athletes will have two new sports to look forward to, as demonstration sports arnis and karatedo are added to the roster of sports offered by the competition, joining athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, sepak takraw and scrabble.

“With a new regional leg to be hosted by a new city, two new venues, and two new sports, we are expecting even more spectators and sports enthusiasts to gather and experience the thrilling youth sports games in the different regional events,” Milo Sports Executive Robbie de Vera said.

“We invite everyone to support and cheer on our young champions as they take on the challenge of another thrilling (edition) of the Milo Little Olympics,“ he added.

The yearly competition emphasizes Milo’s unwavering commitment in helping the country find the next generation of sports heroes by seeking to develop not only athleticism, but also mental discipline in student-athletes.

Through the Milo Little Olympics, the beverage brand provides these young champions a chance to showcase their athletic abilities, determination and drive in the national arena as the first step toward achieving greatness in international leagues, including the Southeast Asian Games, the World Youth Cup, and the Asian Junior Track Meet.

Under its One Child, One Sport (Ocos) program, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), Milo reinforces its commitment to grassroots sports development for youth through the Milo Little Olympics. Together with the DepEd, Milo promotes an active and healthy lifestyle among aspiring young Filipino athletes.
