Everything was readied from the administrative to the creative team of Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) to roll its movie cameras for “Henerala Salud,” a foray into the life and times of Salud Algabre, a woman freedom fighter from Cabuyao, Laguna against the American invasion of the Philippines in the 1930s until its schedule was hampered by a major blow in the production.
According to veteran entertainment writer Alice Vergara, Fernando Josef, also known as Nanding Josef, confided to her that the film’s titular actress Nora Aunor is still indisposed to take on the role.
“Sabi ni Nanding, okay na okay na lahat pero isang araw ay bigla na lang sumama ang pakiramdam ni Nora kaya nabigla sila (Nanding said that everything was already okay, all was in place but in no time at all, Nora wasn’t feeling well so the whole production was startled),” echoed Alice, a longtime friend of Josef and Philippine Educational Theater Associaton (PETA), the theater organization Nanding was and still identified with.
“Hinihintay lang daw nila na bumuti ang pakiramdam ni Guy at saka ii-iskedyul ulit ang shooting. Sana, mabuti na ang pakiramdam ni Nora (They’re just waiting for the immediate wellness of Nora and then they’d reschedule the shoots. I hope Nora’s feeling better now),” said Vergara who’s also a chronicler of Aunor in her heyday in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
“Kaya maantala muna ngayon ang shoots ng ‘Henerala Salud.’ Sayang. Maganda pa naman ang kuwento nila para sa mga kababaihang Filipino (Therefore, the shoots of ‘Henerala Salud’ would be delayed. It’s sad considering that the narrative of the film is very relevant especially to the Filipino women),” added Alice.
