The House of Representatives on Friday adopted a resolution expressing compassion and solidarity with the victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu and nearby provinces on September 30.
House Resolution (HR) 325, introduced by Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, Deputy Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, and 4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino Libanan, supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for emergency funds to aid quake-hit areas.
The measure urges lawmakers to help in relief and rehabilitation efforts, noting that the tremor claimed 72 lives, injured hundreds, and destroyed homes, commercial establishments, vital infrastructure, and heritage churches such as the Archdiocesan Shrine of Santa Rosa de Lima in Daanbantayan.
“The House of Representatives extends its heartfelt condolences and profound empathy to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragedy and stands in unwavering solidarity with the Province of Cebu and all other stricken communities in their time of great need and collective recovery,” the resolution read.
HR 325 also recognized President Marcos’ directives for government agencies to intensify rescue, medical, and relief operations, as well as his assurance of full government support for recovery and rebuilding efforts.
