LTO orders shake-up of district chiefs over poor performance

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will reshuffle chiefs of its district offices nationwide to address underperformance, particularly in the distribution of vehicle plates and the apprehension of unregistered units.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said Friday that a memorandum has been issued directing all regional directors to recommend district-level reorganizations in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for more efficient government services.

Mendoza stressed the need to ensure the timely release of license plates and vehicle documents, including the official receipt and certificate of registration, within three days after the purchase of new vehicles.

“While most of the district offices are doing well, a number of district officers are becoming complacent in their positions, especially those who have been holding the same office since the beginning of this administration,” he said.

A review of accomplishment reports showed a slowdown in license plate distribution and a drop in apprehensions of unregistered vehicles and other violations.

“Because of this, there is a pressing need to wake up our frontline offices,” Mendoza said, adding that the reshuffle will be implemented immediately after the review of regional recommendations.
