The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office has launched a “Libreng Sakay” program offering free bus rides to commuters in Metro Manila in a bid to ease rising daily transportation costs.
The initiative, introduced in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve public commuting services, aims to provide safer, more convenient, and accessible transport for workers, students, and other passengers.
PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles said the program reflects the agency’s effort to directly support everyday mobility needs.
“In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to support our commuting public, PCSO launched the Libreng Sakay Program to provide our fellow Filipinos who travel daily for work, school, and other essential activities with safer, more convenient, and accessible transportation along major routes in Metro Manila,” Robles said.
“Through this initiative, PCSO hopes to alleviate the public’s daily transport cost.”
Under the program, two buses will serve commuters along the SM Fairview–Quiapo route and vice versa, covering one of Metro Manila’s busiest corridors.
The service will run Monday to Friday during peak hours, from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., targeting heavy commuter traffic periods.
The agency said the initiative goes beyond its traditional mandate, reflecting a broader push for responsive public service programs that address everyday concerns of Filipinos.
PCSO also urged passengers to observe proper etiquette and safety protocols while availing of the free rides, adding that it will continue expanding welfare-oriented services in line with government priorities.
