THE rain came down hard, but the runners refused to back down.
Around 10,000 aspiring web warriors braved the heavy downpour Saturday morning as the Spider-Man: Web Warriors Run got off to a wet but rousing start at the SM Mall of Asia Complex.
The pouring rain did little to dampen the spirits of the participants, many of whom came dressed in SpiderMan-inspired running gear as they took on the challenge.
Rather than let the weather get in the way, the runners pushed through the rain, filling the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City with energy as families, friends and running enthusiasts joined the action.
When the race got down to business, Edna Magtubo emerged on top of the women’s 10K division, clocking 42:09 on chip time.
Jessa Mae Roda also posted 42:09, while Karla Marie Superiano finished third in 49:50.
Meanwhile, Alfrence Braza ruled the men’s 10K with a time of 33:29. Noli Torre took second in 33:31, with Jevie Rebutazo close behind at 33:33.
In the women’s 5K, Jo Punay claimed first place in 21:54, followed by Pauline Kaye Escuro in 23:24 and Sheila Borbajo in 26:44.
Jaren Ganan topped the men’s 5K after finishing in 19:32. Gian Bagui was second in 21:22, while Marcelino Talam placed third in 22:32.
For many, the event was more than just a road race.
It was a chance to enjoy the Spider-Man experience while testing their speed and endurance alongside thousands of fellow runners.
With the rain continuing to fall, the runners simply kept moving, turning a stormy Saturday morning into a spirited celebration of running, fitness and all things Spidey.
