Popular Filipino rock band Aegis and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) will perform together for the first time in a concert, titled Aegis in Symphony, Symphonic Aegis, at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) on November 13 at 6 p.m.
Directed by Ariel S. R. Yonzon, Aegis in Symphony, Symphonic Aegis shall showcase the fusion of classical music and the original Filipino rock music composed by Aegis. While the PPO, under the baton of Maestro Herminigildo Ranera, adds a classical flavor to the band’s music, Aegis shall entertain audiences with a crossover performance of classical numbers. Guest tenor Arman Ferrer will perform a special number during the concert.
Formed in the 1990s, Aegis is composed of sisters Juliet, Mercy and Ken Sunot on vocals; Rey Abenoja on guitars; Stella Pabico on keyboards; Rowena Pinpin on bass; and Vilma Goloviogo on drums. The group is known for its hit singles “Luhà” (“Tears”), “Halík” (“Kiss”), and “Basáng-basâ sa Ulán” (“Drenched in the Rain”).
The concert is presented by the CCP Complex Employees Organization (CCPCEO), with the support of the CCP in cooperation with SSI Group Inc., Rustan Marketing Corp., and Harbour Square. It is a fundraising project of the CCPCEO for its health and wellness programs, and other projects for the welfare of its members.
The CCPCEO is led by its board of directors, made up of Gemma Marco, Romeo Yan, Jocel Pacada, Maria Arlene Asis, Ramil Austria, Ma. Judith Peña, Avel Griar, Joselle Calizo, Arlin Ballesteros, Edgar Laganas, Ronald Rosas, Teresa de Guzman, Ferdinand Sevilla, Jorge Joy Sababan, and Andrew Baldonado.
