Alcantara advances in Singapore Open

Philippine Davis Cupper Francis Casey Alcantara marched into the quarterfinal round of the $15,000 Singapore Open men’s singles competition at the Kallang Tennis Center on Thursday. 

The 25-year-old Alcantara, who hails from Cagayan de Oro City, was leading 6-4, 4-1 when his opponent, seventh seed Vietnamese Nam Hoang Ly, was forced to retire.

Alcantara’s next match will be against the winner between second seed American Raymond Sarmiento and Australian Dane Propoggia.

Meanwhile, top seed Indian Ramkumar defeated Japanese qualifier Ken Onoda, 6-1, 6-2, to advance into the quarterfinal.

Ramkumar will meet the winner between No. 6 Taiwanese Cheng-Yu Yu and Indian Sidharth Rawat.

Also booking quarterfinal berths were No. 4 Japanese Masato Shiga, No. 5 Indian N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth and American qualifier Nicholas Hu.
