April Boy Regino biopic to premiere ala-Hollywood

I was prepared for the decision of the Selection Committee of the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival. If ever we wouldn’t make it, I had Plan B,” exclaimed Marynette Gamboa, producer of Water Plus Productions, the company that submitted the finished product of “Idol The April Boy Regino Story” to the MMFF possible inclusion in this year’s derby.

Unfortunately, the Regino filmbio directed by Efren Reyes, Jr. didn’t make it to the last five entries. “Honestly, the selection was very competitive. The submissions were all impressive and the stars are all big. If ever we could be chosen, it’s all the same preparation like publicity,” Marynette quipped.

There were 70 submissions to the last five choices, according to Don Artes, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair. “We will try to revive the MMFF Summer Film Festival so that we can accommodate the other films,” said Artes/

Water Plus Productions is unfazed and thinking advanced.

“We will have a nationwide showing of ‘Idol…’ in November ahead of the festival,” informed Gamboa.

“We will also have a glitzy premiere night. Our stars will be billeted in Novotel in Cubao. They will come out and ride limousines like premiere nights in Hollywood. They will march on the red carpet down New Frontier Theater,” she shared. Boy Villasanta
