Ayala Malls is expanding its rooftop solar installations across its properties, with new projects expected to generate an additional 29.4 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually and reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 22,940 tonnes a year.
Solar facilities at 13 malls, including Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Ayala Malls Harbor Point, Ayala Center Cebu, Ayala Malls Central Bloc, Ayala Malls Nuvali and Ayala Malls MarQuee, already produce about 20.8 million kWh of electricity annually. These installations help avoid an estimated 16,200 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Another 18 malls are set to benefit from solar installations, including Glorietta, Greenbelt, One Ayala, Ayala Malls Circuit and Ayala Malls Vertis North. New developments such as Ayala Malls Evo City and Ayala Malls Gatewalk are also included in the rollout.
Paul Birkett, Ayala Malls chief operating officer, said rooftop solar is part of the company’s broader effort to reduce its environmental footprint through on-site power generation and renewable energy sourcing.
The expansion builds on the company’s existing use of renewable electricity, which accounts for 98% of the power consumed across its properties. This is sourced through accredited renewable energy suppliers, with the renewable energy claims independently verified through International Renewable Energy Certificates.
By generating more electricity directly from its rooftops, Ayala Malls aims to further strengthen its clean energy strategy while potentially reducing long-term operating costs.
Birkett said sustainability would remain central to the company’s operations as it expands, helping ensure its malls remain resilient and prepared for future needs while providing spaces for tenants, shoppers and other visitors.
