The 5th Kalikasan GP3 (Green Purchasing, Green Productivity towards Green Philippines) will highlight bamboo and wood industry for sustainable forestry as well as sustainable consumption and production, sustainable tourism and cultural heritage.
The event, slated this Sept. 21 to 23 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, will also focus on how Filipino life has evolved culturally and environmentally.
The three-day event will serve as an avenue for green businesses, sustainable tourism industry, other cultural-based industries, and to showcase knowledge and practices on green construction.
Its organizer, the National Ecolabelling Programme-Green Choice Philippines (Nelp-GCP), targets to bring together key players in promoting environmental awareness.
The Nelp-GCP also hopes to provide collaboration opportunities through this event.
Moreover, through the GP3 Expo, the group eyes promoting the aforementioned initiatives, while addressing sustainable development and climate change.
”This event hopes to take the lead for prime moving intersectoral-commitment for sustainable growth via increased information sharing on the latest trends on bamboo and forestry products, green purchasing, among others,” the Nelp-GCP said.
About 300 booths will be mounted at the expo, which will carry the theme, “Advancing Sustainable Consumption and Production in Addressing Climate Challenges.”
For this initiative, 14 public and private organizations signed a memorandum of agreement on Friday. Among those who signed were the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Green Building Council, Philippine Business for the Environment, the Foreign Chamber Council of the Philippines, and the Quezon City local government.
The agreement was endorsed by Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
Pimentel noted that environment sustainability must be everyone’s concern.
”Addressing climate change is a central overriding concern of global action for sustainability. The Philippines, in its commitment to the Paris Treaty for Climate Change, needs to shape its development agenda for the promotion of sustainable consumption and production,” he added.
The Nelp-GCP said the green traders and manufacturers are not the only ones who will benefit from the expo, but the public as well.
”With the continuous evolvement of this program, we hope to gather more commitments for the adoption of sustainable production and consumption, and to contribute to the country’s efforts on climate change mitigation and adoption,” it said.
