BYD Sealion 5 DM-I finally unwrapped

BYD Cars Philippines, a subsidiary of ACMobility, unveiled the new BYD Sealion 5 DM-i, a technologically advanced and versatile electrified subcompact SUV powered by BYD Super DM-i technology, at the Alabang Town Center Activity Center in Muntinlupa City.

The introduction of the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i signifies a pivotal expansion in BYD’s electrified vehicle offerings in the Philippines, following the successful launches of the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, the BYD Seal 5 DM-i and the BYD Shark 6 DMO, which addressed the varied needs of customers across different market segments. This bold subcompact SUV is poised to redefine entry-level mobility by combining cutting-edge electrified technology with practical design and affordability.

The new electrified subcompact crossover combines efficiency, power, smart features, and a commanding presence on the road, making it perfect for young Filipinos who want to drive more, free from range anxiety. From daily commutes to weekend trips, the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i delivers efficient electrified performance and all-around practicality, redefining mobility for today’s drivers.

“The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i delivers exceptional value—combining advanced technology, everyday functionality, and a size advantage that’s perfect for first-time buyers. Powered by BYD’s proven Super DM-i technology, the Sealion 5 offers more of what matters to cost-conscious and practical car owners – a reliable and sustainable long-range driving companion. As more Filipinos adopt electrified mobility, the Sealion 5 DM-i will serve as the gateway to BYD and ACMobility’s vision of a greener Philippines,” said BYD Cars Philippines managing director Bob Palanca.

At the heart of the BYD Sealion 5 is the advanced Super DM-i system, the electric-first powertrain seamlessly combines electrified propulsion with a high-efficiency generator, enabling long-distance driving. With a combined output of 197 PS and 300 Nm of torque, the Sealion 5 DM-i can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 8.3 seconds.

With selectable Economy, Normal, and Sport modes, and a total driving range of over 1,000 km, the Sealion 5 DM-i is engineered for both efficiency and performance. The 12.96 kWh ultra-safe Lithium Iron Phosphate Blade Battery is rated for up to 71 km of pure electric driving range, based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standard.

In a recent efficiency run supervised by the Automobile Association Philippines, circuit racing legends George and Louis Ramirez drove the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i around the famed Luzon Loop with only a full charge of the BYD Blade Battery and a full tank of fuel.

Reaching as far north as Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, and past the South Luzon Expressway and Cavitex on their way back to Manila, the Sealion 5 DM-i managed to complete a total distance of 1,409.7 km over three days of driving with George behind the wheel. Driving along urban, highway, mountain, and countryside roads, the Ramirez tandem achieved an efficiency result of 25.273 km/liter for the Sealion 5 DM-i while surpassing the vehicle’s estimated range in the process.

Plugged in, the BYD DM-i system supports up to 3.3 kW of AC charging, allowing the Blade Battery to reach a full charge from 15% in approximately 4.5 hours. For added versatility, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality enables the Sealion 5 DM-i to power external devices and appliances, making it ideal for outdoor and on-the-go use, as well as for emergencies when electricity is needed.
