CCP’s 28th Gawad Alternatibo now accepting entries

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is inviting Filipino filmmakers to join the Ika-28 Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video (CCP Independent Film and Video Competition), better known as Gawad Alternatibo, at the CCP Tanghalang Manuel Conde (Dream Theater) from Aug. 6 to 8, 2016.

Entries to the competition may be in digital video disc (DVD) or digital data file format for video. Competition categories are Short Feature/Narrative, Experimental, Documentary, and Animation.

All submitted works must be independently produced and not made for commercial screenings. These must not have been completed earlier than July 4, 2015. Each participant may submit a maximum of three entries in each category.

All entries will be screened from Aug. 6 to 8 at the CCP Tanghalang Manuel Conde during the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival and Competition.

Cash prizes and certificates will be given to winners of the different categories. Special awards will be given for the best regional entry and best entry for/on/by children. Honorable mentions may be given by the jury. Winners of the competition will be announced during an awards ceremony at the CCP Tanghalang Manuel Conde on Aug. 8.

The CCP Gawad Alternatibo will again be part of Cinemalaya, now on its 12th year. Cinemalaya entries will be shown at various CCP venues and Ayala mall theaters from Aug. 5 to 14.

Entries to the Gawad Alternatibo must be submitted to the CCP Film, Broadcast and New Media Division (formerly the Media Arts Division), on the fourth floor of the CCP Main Building, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City. Deadline of submission of entries is 6 p.m. of June 3, 2016.

Entry forms, guidelines and mechanics can be downloaded from the CCP and Cinemalaya websites (www.culturalcenter.gov.ph and www.cinemalaya.org).

Established in 1987, the Gawad Alternatibo is considered the longest-running independent film and video competition of its kind in Southeast Asia. Many of today’s outstanding filmmakers and media practitioners are alumni of the Gawad Alternatibo.
