Celeste Legaspi and OPM friends roar and soar again and again

Original Pilipino Music (OPM) stalwart and Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) founder Celeste Legaspi did it again.

It’s up her alley, indeed.

It wasn’t only to stir the social consciousness of the public through music which is her cup of tea but to offer fun and entertainment as well.

“Groovin’ OPM Greatest Hits” was a success at the Newport World Resorts.

Celeste and her colleagues were never tireless in supporting the needy and giving utmost performances because the show was for charity.

Kudos to Legaspi, Pinky Marquez, Pat Castillo, Leah Navarro, Ding Mercado, Nanette Inventor, Mitch Valdez and Bo Cerrudo.

They keep on roaring and soaring after all these years.

In the case of Celeste, her music isn’t always about syrupy or mushy love songs, they are anthems peppered with social commentary which aren’t largely explicit but they prick the heart and mind of the listener to feel and to think immensely.

Take for instance her hit songs “Mamang Sorbetero,” “Saranggola ni Pepe,” “Minsan ang Minahal ay Ako,” among others.

They may be straightforwardly plain descriptive but if a listener digs deeper on the undertones or underlying meanings of each song, they reflect the social commitment of freedom, liberation, acceptance and longing for change especially in society.

Meanwhile, her OPM friends didn’t fail her in the service of others. (Boy Villasanta)
